£18 million for Darren Bent! And it’s been turned down!

Welcome to the new-look Premiership, where foreign capital provokes ridiculous bids for half-decent players.

In the last 18 months they’ve been on the verge of takeover by builder Steve Morgan, the Thai president, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the Dubai government and now with George Gillett who owns the Montreal Canadiens Ice Hockey club.

They’re like a cat in heat. Is it just me or do Liverpool fans find this whole thing a bit distasteful as well?
